Ane Lala Part II

mewSo, I actually did stick with Ane Lala because how else would Part II exist :P The first two series were definitely fun ~ Love that they are having second chapters in the next Ane Lala.

The last one can go die in a fire (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Sora no Oto (Sounds of the Sky)
Tsukuba Sakura
「そらのおと」筑波さくら

Reo is an inspiring musician who moved from the sticks to the big city in hopes of making it big. While she has been in the city for a while, she finds it a bit difficult to make friends. But hey, that’s not gonna get this girl down! She has plenty of opportunities to make friends! Starting with her new roommate, Suzu. Though both haven’t met, Nao is looking forward to forming the bonds of friendship with her new roomie. However, Nao gets a big shock when she meets her roommate. She’s a he! And Suzu himself gets an even bigger shock when he meets his roommate fresh from the shower. After getting assaulted by Nao and later talking over their misunderstandings after he gained consciousness (both thought the other was the same gender), they try to contact their landlady who is conveniently away on a trip around the world #deadserious. #Not sure who they are supposed to respond to about clogged toilets and gas leaks but hey, this is manga. That shit don’t happen unless it’s pertinent to the drama! Since Suzu already paid in advance, the two decide to let things be until the landlady gets back. Not missing a beat, Nao proceeds with “Operation: Let’s be Girlfriends, only you have a dick but that’s okay!.” However, Suzu is not interested in being buddies. He just wants a place to stay and that’s it.

Sora no Oto is a battle between a girl who wants to make friends and a boy who doesn’t want any of that shojo crap.

Sora no Oto’s first chapter was very cute. Nao is a very endearing character. I like her “positivity!” attitude. Reminds me that I need to smile sometimes when life is sticking its unwashed behind in my eyes. But you can tell this is a shojo because if someone threw a can of beer at me, I wouldn’t smile and keep on playing my guitar. I’d either cry or I’d beat that fool’s ass with my guitar. Suzu was a grumpy cat but he wasn’t so grumpy he was annoying or anything. Having Nao’s sunshine in Suzu’s life helps the boy to open up ~ Which goes to show that people can have both a negative and positive affect on one another :3

Towards the end we’re introduced to two possible love rival characters. One I know for sure will definitely stir the pot up. The other…he can go either way. He may be a rival or he may turn into a BFF. At this point, I can’t tell. (I’ve been too out of the shojo dance to make a call)

I’m looking forward to reading more about Nao and Suzu x3 What will happen with them ~ I already know but I still want to find out haha ~

Random thought: Wait a minute. I remember the professor at Suzu’s school asking Suzu how his new living arrangements are. The teacher made it sound like he and the landlady were buds. So doesn’t that mean the landlady knew that Nao was a chick and Suzu was a dude….

Professor: ;D

Kyou Kanoko
Nakaji Yuki
「京・かのこ」なかじ有紀

The series follows a young girl, Kanoko, as she becomes interested in making Japanese pastries. As a person with a sweet tooth, I enjoyed the visual sweets filling the pages <3 The beginning was a little weak because the main character went from having no fucks to give about sweets to all of a sudden deciding she needed to make dem rolls. Maybe it’s because the manga-ka is given a limited amount of pages to work with but I feel that chapter 1 should have been focusing on the main character going from her present life to gradually deciding to follow in her family’s footsteps and make sweets. It’d feel more powerful compared to deciding a life change because of what your friend said about cakes offhand. If living in a pastry shop didn’t convince you, how’d your half naked male friend succeed?

kyo2Turbulent starts aside, the rest of the chapter went much more smoothly. As per shojo rules, the main girl tries her best even as she messes up everywhere. Eventually she causes a big screw up and runs for it in tears. But a kind mentor figure helps coax her back and convinces her not to give up. Her hard work pays off and she’s allowed back into the pastry business ~

For those looking for romance, I feel you’ll definitely get the shojo triangle with future installments of Kyou Kanoko. We’re introduced to 2 guys/potential love interests in the first chapter. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I’ve never read anything by this particular author so I’m hoping her love triangles aren’t handled too shitty…

In ending, I’m looking forward to seeing more pastries <3 Everything else…we’ll see. So far this feels more like a normal Lala shojo than a shojo for older ladies.

earth1

Ai wa Chikyuu wo Sukuu no Da! (Love Saves the Earth)
Moria Masami
「愛が地球を救うのだ! 」森生まさみ

But hey, standard shojo totally beats incest. Yuppers! Another incest series! But at least this time, we have a couple of family members between the two possible lovers to dilute the blood. The story is this: the chick with the glasses is a hick who is more nerd than girl. She moves in with a distant cousin/relative so she can attend college in the city. The cousin/relative is the dude in the picture. He just recently broke up with his girlfriend because he cared more about himself than her but no one knows that. They all think he’s still together with that girl and so having his cousin stay with him is ok due to that fact. But mom still tells her kid, hey, none of that ass grabbing, k? Like, wow mom. Really? Gonna tell your son not to touch family? If you feel the need to issue such a warning, maybe you might want to NOT let the girl stay with him? Huh, every think about that?

ALSO HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR SON THAT YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE HE DOESN’T START FUCKING WITH SOMEONE IN HIS FAMILY TREE!? YOU’D THINK A MOTHER WOULD HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE IN HER SON BUT OK NO WHATEVER. GUESS SHE KNEW THE MOMENT HE CAME OUT OF HER WOMB THAT HE’D BE THE TYPE TO LOOK FOR DATES AT FAMILY GATHERINGS!

earth2Ahem. The dude decides to change the cousin because why not. So now she’s girlie. Drama of the story is she gets a boyfriend. She changes for him because she wants the boyfriend to like her. The relative dude is like, oh my gawd, I can totally see the reasoning behind all the things my girlfriend did. The boyfriend turns out to just want action from the cousin who says no fuq u man. My pussy is gold. So she breaks up with him and tells the relative dude she wants to be treasured, which reminds the relative dude of his girlfriend’s words. The chapter ends with the cousin saying, welp, wonder who I’ll be falling in love with next hur hur! and instantly thinks of the relative dude.

Me: WHY!? щ(゚д゚щ)

OK DID I MISS SOMETHING BECAUSE WHEN DID ADULT WOMEN = LIKE INCESTY STORIES!? I AM SO CONFUSED. I CAN SEE ONE FLOATING AROUND BUT TWO!? TWO!? HAVE WE RUN OUT OF PEOPLE IN JAPAN THAT WE HAVE TO LOOK IN THE FAMILY FOR POSSIBLE DATES!? HAVE I JUST BEEN THAT OUT OF THE SHOJO GAME THAT FAMILY IS THE NEWEST THING?? Typical that this one had to be the last one I read for part II because now my budding interest was just hacked off like a long nose hair :/

I’ll eventually get to Part III once I get the bad taste out of my mouth…gahhhhhhhh… (゚Д゚≡゚Д゚)

#lol, I notice each time I take pictures, my nail polish gets chipped! Damn, those nails looked so good too ^^;

  1. It’s been a long time since I’ve found anything worth reading in Lala and from what I’ve seen in your posts, I don’t think I’ll be bothering with Ane Lala titles. I think I prefer josei to shoujo for adults, seeing grown ups acting like pure shoujo heroines is just unsettling. XD Not to mention that I don’t understand the appeal of incest stories. I mean, if they are done reaaally well then it’s one thing, but the chances of that happening are… well… suffice to say that I encountered much more bad incest stories than good ones. Which usually just left me banging my head against the wall trying to erase the images.
WTF Japan what’s wrong with you and your weird family fetishes. Just. What.

    • Haha, I don’t think you’re missing anything in Ane Lala. It’s a weirddddd combination of stories for “older” women. I don’t know what kind of women we’re talking about here, but incest and child abuse aren’t exactly things I think of when I think of josei-ish content…but then again, I haven’t read too much josei so maybe that’s the problem here xD

I’m not too much of a fan of incest-y stories. Or stories where the dude raises the girl and then they fall in love. That’s just…too creepy for me. It’s like someone falling for their dad. I just…can’t. o___o
But apparently that’s the newest craze in Japan. I blame Oreimo or whatever it’s called for giving incest popularity. *shakes an angry fist*
