Stuff I’ve Read #2

Summer school is done!!!!!!!!!
Oh, how I am thankful another semester is gone 8D
Now I get to enjoy like 2 weeks of my summer vacation before the Fall term starts ~
OTL
The cruelty of summer classes…

Anyway, here’s another round of STUFF I’VE READ. I’ll be getting to my June Sylph stuff here soon ~

Captive Hearts

Wow...chains and whips excite ya huh Megumi?

Carefree Megumi Kuroishi was living a life of luxury until the day a girl named Suzuka Kogami walked into his life. All of a sudden, Megumi finds himself kneeling at Suzuka’s feet and prostrating himself like a servant! What Megumi doesn’t know (until that very moment, anyway) is that his family is cursed to follow the orders of the Kogami family.

Story and art by Matsuri Hino.

I didn’t really like this series. Though it was a comedy, I didn’t really laugh too much (save for the antics of the secondary characters – they made the series fun ~ 8D Esp Megumi’s parents!!! Damn the dad was hawt when he was younger <3). Maybe because things just felt too over-dramatic and crazy. Plus it felt like the same thing was happening over and over again… (why you always gotta run away Suzuka???? щ(゚ロ゚щ) )

And when the series tried to be serious by adding that slave traders arc and the homicidal grandma thing…no… ◉ε◉

But hey, I bought this off ebay for a sweet deal so I’m not complaining too much because I didn’t pay much for it ~ yay screw you back xD ~

The highlight of getting these volumes (for me anyway) was reading the one-shots xD How sad ~

Happy Boys #2 (final)

At the butler cafe Lady Braganza, the five apprentice butlers known as “Happy Boys” work to fulfill their mission to bring happiness to the ladies who visit the cafe and attain perfection as butlers. After intricate and extensive butler training, the young apprentices are finally beginning to perform their duties with comfort and confidence.

But one day, one of the butlers finds out a customer has a crush on him, and at Lady Braganza, the first and most important rule is to never get involved with a customer. Can he remain professional without tarnishing the butler cafe’s reputation, or hurting the young lady’s feelings?

Story and art by Makoto Tateno.

o__O; uhhh, I don’t remember there being any crush in this volume (referring to the synopsis). If by crush you mean the lady was interested in hiring one of the guys as her full time butler because hers is old and nasty, then I guess?

The series was fun. Maybe because I liked to lol at the man-angst going down at times (yeah, I’m sick)? But don’t worry, it’s not all man-angst. There were funny scenes in here ~ (Sylphalchemist likes funny stuff ~ *has a pained expression when looking at Captive Hearts* Most of the time). Don’t expect much of a story though. It’s just a bunch of (not ghey for each other) dudes doing (not ghey) stuff and getting through problems via their (not ghey) man bonds.

To emphasis: they are not ghey. Not sure how they are in the tv series but in the manga, they are all buddies (not butt buddies…just…man friends….or whatever the term is for two guys that are buds yet not playing pantsless leap frog with one another Dx)

Animal Academy #3 & #4

As Miika struggles to be more independent, Fune gets a fever overnight! A small conspiracy begins regarding how to get her human cold medicine without revealing her secret, but someone seizes it as an opportunity to spy on something else. At the same time, Kotaro decides to impress Miika as she still seems to be ignorant of his true feelings. However, in midst of all the mess, Yuuichi is the one who will take the point of no return… [volume #3 summary]

Everyone’s on edge with Yuichi having left Morimori after the devastating revelation that he isn’t actually human. Aside from losing one of her best friends (and maybe something more?), Neko is distraught at how the truth about Yuichi affects her own place at this school for animal shape-shifters. But when she herself decides to leave the academy, it’s up to Kotaro to bring her back! [volume #4 summary]

Story and art by Moyamu Fujino.

Why are all my cute series turning dark??? Dx

Well, at least people aren’t dying like in Beyond the Beyond ;_______;

Er…*ahem* Yay for the power of friendship! When you’ve got good friends, they’ll help you get through the darkest of times.  JUST MAKE SURE NOT TO BE FRIENDS WITH SOMEONE WHO PUSHES PPL OFF BUILDINGS AND EVEN TIES UP HIS OWN RELATIVE LIKE A BIRTHDAY PRESENT FROM HELL!

(╬ ಠ益ಠ)

Thanks to this douchebag, shit’s going to hit the fan in volume #5. Why you gotta be hatin’ boy???? ( ・Д・)ノ

Sora Kara! My Nanny #1

Meet the world’s worst baby sitter☆

This story takes place in a small port town called Adolf Pool, located in the kingdom of Saint Dean. One day, a lone figure comes FLYING (literally) into town! This youth has been dispatched to care for the three brothers of the Baggins Estate while their parents are away. The kind-hearted nanny is named Victor and he can take to the skies using his umbrella! Together with plenty of love, courage, and his freaky magical powers, this nanny is here to care for his charges!

First volume GOT!!! 8D Ahhhh, I finally got to see how Victor’s adventures started. And I won’t lie….it was pretty ghey xD WAYYYYY too many THIS CAN SO GO ANOTHER WAY scenes happened in the beginning. I find it amusing that the chapter I started on was where the QUESTIONABLE stuff disappeared xD

This is a fun series and I hope someone picks this title up to be scanned ~ (or even licensed…hah…maybe? ( ̄∇ ̄〃) )

Heart no Kuni no Alice//Alice in the Country of Hearts #2

As Alice grows accustomed to life in Wonderland, she begins to understand the inner workings of this mysterious world. Everyone desires to get close to her, and Alice’s life lights up with little moments of happiness. However, along with those sweet moments, she soon discovers the truth behind all the bliss… and wasted lives. And what is Alice’s reaction when the greatest secret is revealed by Julius, the one and only clock repairer?!

Story by QuinRose and Art by Hoshino Soumei.

I knew I was behind in the series, but I didn’t know I was THIS behind D8 (bad bad for skipping chapters xD). Volume #2 made me love Elliot and Ace more ~ However, in exchange, my respect for Blood died (though granted, I didn’t have much in the first place). Boris’s chapter towards the end made me a happy Boris fangirl xD You can never have too much Boris ~

Matched

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander’s face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham’s face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it’s a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she’s destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can’t stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society’s infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Yes! I do read books other than light novels 8D Usually in the form of YA titles ~

Matched took awhile to get into. The beginning was just pain because Cassia was all, yay Society is the best. Anything bad that happens is your fault for not listening to Society ~ yay brainless sheep I am 8D! After trudging through the muck, the middle got decent; mostly due to Cassia going, okay, maybe Society isn’t the shiz after all. And because Ky had a bigger part ~ BUT THE END! FFFFFFFF DAMN YOUR ONE SCENE THAT MADE ME WANT TO GET THE SEQUEL! щ(゚ロ゚щ)

Divergent

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

Unexpectedly addicting. I did not think I would be drawn to stay up until who knows just to finish this.

Who needs sleep?

I think the reason I liked this book (besides the main character actually being kind of kick ass) was because THERE WAS NO DAMN LOVE TRIANGLE! YESSSSSSSSS!!!!! I approve of Four ~ he’s so cute x3 Love how he practically had to scream at the main character I FIGGIN LOVE YOU! before she caught on to his feelings xD

;_______; FFFFF, sucks the next book isn’t coming out till next year though.

And that’s it ~ I really like making these kinds of posts 8D

    • xD no probs – I’ve mostly been posting Comic Sylph stuff which no one really cares about :P

Captive Hearts just…wasn’t really fun to read :{ It was really boring because the main characters kept acting all crazy. The side characters are wonderful though. They were a hoot. I’m sad the story didn’t focus on them instead of the main pair o3o Or had more oneshots in them…
I heard VK got real…eccentric/asinine after like volume 8 or something. I held off on getting the series because I got frustrated by how emo the white hair character Zero was. JUST REALIZE YOU LOVE HER AND GET OVER YOURSELF ALREADY DX

I really love finding obscure titles xD Animal Academy I knew from scans and Happy Boys from a sale ~ I really like both ~ Animal Academy is cute while Happy Boys is just fun to laugh at the guys as they get into crazy man adventures. And cry about it xD

Nothing wrong with not like books :3 Hey, I don’t like watching tv. Not sure why. Probably explains why it takes me forever to finish an anime xD

  2. I never got around to finishing Captive Hearts.

Those novels seem pretty good. Especially Divergent. It’s funny how the factions are all SAT vocab words. If my mom hadn’t forced me to go to SAT prep, I would’ve never caught onto that. I might pick it up sometime in the far future.

Random recommendation: Warau Kanako-sama or if you want the liscensed English version, Laugh Lady Kanako.
