Manga Opinion: Gokkun! Pucho volume #2

Gokkun! Pucho: continuing the Nakayoshi tradition of boobage =_=; (read manga for details)

Title: Gokkun! Pucho! (Pixie Pop) Volume #2
Author: Tooyama Ema

Summary on the back (Tokyopop version):

Meet the perfect new girl in school, Konoha. She’s gorgeous, kind, and good at everything–including trying to steal Amamiya-kun away from Mayu! That is, unless Mayu has something to say about it! But will any drink be enough to give her the advantage in this tug-of-war of love?

Volume #2 introduces a new character to the world of Gokkun! Pucho in the form of a love rival named Konoha. She’s smart. She’s athletic. She’s graceful. She’s everything Mayu isn’t (her words, not mine people!). And she has her sights on Amamiya.

Mayu isn’t about to stay down for too long. She still has the power to gain special abilities from anything she drinks – and she’s going to use them to fight for her man’s heart :3

Most of the chapters in volume #2 deal with Mayu either getting into trouble because of the drinks she drank or getting out of trouble via the same method. Yet with each trial she gets closer and closer to Amamiya.  At the same time she learns that there is something more motivating Konoha then just Amamiya’s good looks.

Sounds heavy but Gokkun! Pucho still retains its bouncy humor and sugary moments. My favorite chapter has to be the Christmas one (just because of my dirty mind – what would Amamiya be doing with a doll everyday? *perverted thoughts XD* read and you’ll understand the reference).  Also, for a love rival, Konoha wasn’t as annoying as I’d thought she’d be. She’s actually pretty retarded XD

What I liked the best in this volume was not the romance between Mayu and Aoyama but between Mayu’s BFF and Amamiya’s BFF. I’m hoping volume #3 will continue it :3 (that’s pretty sad when I’m more interested in the secondary characters’ romance than the main pair).

The last chapters are bonus chapters. One of Mayu meeting Pucho when she was younger. Another explaining how Mayu ended up confessing to Amamiya in the beginning of volume #1. The very last are little comics that add information about the characters (what gender Pucho is, how many siblings do the characters of Gokkun! Pucho have, etc)

Overall, Gokkun! Pucho is still entertaining. I’m interested to see how everything will wrap up in the next and finally volume.

    • She’s already turned into a boy, a monkey, really huge, really small, invisible, into the perfect girl, a ninja, among others :3
She needs to turn into an old person, because that is usually what happens. Or little would be cute :3 I mean, she already turned into an adult and gave Amamiya some face boob XD

I don’t think this ever became an anime. Shame though. It’s really cute. I’ll tell you how it ends in the future (when I get around to reading the 3rd volume X3)

  1. It still just kills me that this is what Ema Toyama was doing way before xxxShina. xD

It looks adorable though and I really might just have to track down copies of the series (since it’s only 3 volumes, right?). :]

    • Yeah, it’s surprising to see the difference! Not only in content (Gokkun! Pucho is anything but risque like xxx ni Shinasai) but also visually (Mayu’s eyes are scarily huge. Her face is 68% eyes XD).

It’s really cute. Not something I’d pay vasts amount of money for but if you manage to find a good deal on Pixie Pop/Gokkun! Pucho, I’d definitely recommend grabbing it.
Just for the warm fuzzies it gives you X3
(And yup, it’s 3 volumes. Not too bad on the wallet)
